I always treated the Call of Duty series as a single player game, until MW 2019. The lack of at least an acceptable Internet and love for storytelling and history played an overwhelming role in this, although the plot in the magic, let’s say, there are not enough stars from the sky. The last stories from the classic code, which I completed was the second Black Ops, undoubtedly gorgeous. After that, I played exclusively in multiplayer and thought that after fighting with real people, shooting dummies would no longer be so interesting. I completed the first part of the reboot, the most memorable moment of which was an episode from “The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi” by Michael Bay. The sequel attracted old familiar characters and popular quotes from Ghost, which fueled interest when watching Shorts. And I started going through the story campaign of Modern Warfare 2. And how boring it is, but not everything is so simple..
I have always played the games in this series on medium difficulty, since it is assumed that you will mindlessly run and shoot. And yes, I did exactly that and it brought a lot of pleasure. With a similar approach, I started the new part, realizing that this is not about her. In previous MWs they showed both special forces and combined arms operations, and there were always enough opponents that you could shoot with pleasure even as a private. The advantage was a large-scale and epic production, which decorated the gameplay and therefore you enjoyed being a participant in a kind of interactive action movie about the war.
They tried to make a kind https://winzcasino.uk/withdrawal/ of “Sicario” out of the new part. But if in Danny Villeneuve’s film there was a local story about the fight against drug cartels with a good script, thanks to which you watched the film with interest, despite the presence of only a couple of action scenes, then here we have the same pace, but a mediocre plot about stolen missiles and, as a result, a world-class threat. Only now clashes occur with a couple or three homeless people. The only normal mess was when we captured the main villain, that is, you understand the problem of modern units, I don’t even remember his name. And when this shootout took place, we watched it from above, pouring fire on everything from the plane. And it could have turned out really interesting, but the developers thought otherwise. After another long walk and crawl, I just sat and yawned from the realization of how cool the shooter Infinity Ward released in 2022 and abandoned it for a week.
Taking a slight break from such despondency, I decided to finish this game, and in order to somehow increase interest, I increased the difficulty level to maximum and guess what?. The game has been transformed and has become not just a stupid shooter, but a tactical stupid shooter. One gets the feeling that it was designed and balanced specifically for hard drives. If on the regular gameplay you just shot, completely forgetting about various auxiliary items, then here you had to use everything. You carefully checked corners, threw in flash drives and methodically cleared room after room, as an operative would act in principle, and did not go with an open visor towards a group of armed terrorists. Moving from cover to cover, you fired short bursts at the enemy and hid back, because you flew away with literally a couple of hits, and the opponents are angry and sometimes they can simply rush in for something you are never ready for.
Almost everything in this mode works well and makes you use and even enjoy many game mechanics that you would usually forget about. Yes, as I played through the rest of the story campaign I was intrigued by the slow and methodical gameplay. The only annoying thing was the very frequent use of armored soldiers, who were apparently included when they simply didn’t know how to balance the situation, but then they added an enemy with a lot of HP, and now the player had to work harder. The only point is that if you stumble upon several at once and fall into their field of vision, then you are dead. They kill you in a couple of hits, despite the fact that you need to drop almost a clip, and flash drives stun them for a very short time, which is sometimes not even enough to hide. Something like this.
Of the latest codes, I only played MW and, judging by them, they really lack the scale and staging of the previous parts and the point is not that the grass was greener before, no. Going through the old parts, they are still captivating, while the modern ones try to focus on tactics and realism, while not providing any deep mechanics that would help reveal such a vision of gameplay, but at the same time the pace slows down significantly, there are fewer interesting situations and wow moments, and the next crawls and attempts at stealth cause outright yawning. Cold War is said to be good, in the spirit of the old parts, but more on that some other time.
